Making sport accessible for all …
Community Kit Room

The Community Kit Room, working in partnership with StreetGames Wales, is a free service that provides appropriate sports clothing and footwear for people aged 3 – adult.

Its aim is to support members of the community within Blaenau Gwent with their health, sport and fitness journey ensuring that having the appropriate kit isn’t a barrier to participation.

We’re working with a number of local organisations, businesses, residents and schools to collect and distribute kit across the community.

The Community Kit Room is situated in Abertillery sports centre.  You can enquire about available sportswear, with the potential to view and select items through enquiries. Also, to make it accessible and convenient for everyone, we continue to expand our Community Kit Room hubs which offer drop off and collections points within the local community. These hubs are listed below (please check the opening times and dates for donations and collections).

If you’d like to make a donation,

We accept:

·       General sports clothing, trainers and boots

·       Paired footwear tied together, free of dirt or mud

·       Clothing which is clean and washed

We cannot accept:

·       Stained or damaged clothing

·       Unpaired trainers and boots

·       Sporting equipment

Community Kit Room hub locations:

  • Abertillery Bluebirds FC - Cwm Nant-y-Groes stadium, Six Bells, Abertillery NP132PR, and Abertillery Sport Centre NP13 1QD

  • Heads of the Valley A. B. C. - Old science block, Willowtown, Garfield Terrace, Ebbw Vale NP23 6HB

  • Nantyglo F.C. – Duffryn Park, Blaina, Abertillery NP13 3DA

  • Tredegar Town F.C - Tredegar Recreation Ground NP22 3NG, and Tredegar Rugby Club NP22 3NN

The feedback has been really positive.  We plan to grow this initiative and continue to support the local community by:

  • Sourcing specific kit, listening to your feedback

  • Increase the number of hubs

  • Continue to work with partners to get the message to as many people as possible

  • Run a Community Kit Room charity event to raise awareness and funds to purchase even more appropriate kit for all ages

My daughter is now participating more confidently in PE lessons thanks to the kit she’s received.
It’s the best day of my life getting my new boots and trainers. It’s like my birthday has come early!
